What Is a Fiancée Visa (K-1)?
The K-1 visa allows your partner to enter the U.S. so you can get married. The catch? You must tie the knot within 90 days of their arrival.
K-1 Visa Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a K-1 fiancé(e) visa:
The sponsor must be a U.S. citizen (green card holders are not eligible to sponsor a K-1 visa)
Both partners must be legally free to marry (any prior marriages must be legally ended)
The couple must have met in person at least once within the last 2 years before filing
The in-person meeting must be face-to-face (online-only relationships do not qualify)
A waiver of the 2-year meeting rule may be available in limited cases due to extreme hardship or strict cultural or religious practices
The U.S. citizen sponsor must meet the income requirement (at least 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines)
